HYBRID VS WATERPROOF

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

I went down a packraft bow bag rabbit hole so you don’t have to. Below is a comparative guide to every packraft specific bow bag on the market…the entire market… like the whole world. This guide will be updated seasonally, so return here as more companies continue putting out rad gear!

HYBRID OR WATERPROOF?

There are generally 2 “types” of bow bags available on the market, waterproof and hybird.

Waterproof bow bags are typically made of packrafting materials, like 210D and 410D TPU and a waterproof zipper system. Pros - These are great for keeping your daily gear dry. Larger waterproof bags can replace a t-zip if you don’t have one. Cons- Constantly opening and closing the zippers means a lot of upkeep. They also take quite a beating on the exterior of the boat, and risk puncture.

Hybrid bow bags are much lighter, made of ultralight backpacking cloth or mesh, and require and interior waterproof liner. Pros-These systems are much lighter, usually integrate with a backpack, and can even turn into a daypack for sidequests. The zippers are more robust and don’t require lubing. Users can separate valuables they want to keep dry from commonly used “wet” items like pack-a-pumps. Cons - Need waterpoof bag/liner. The can absorb water on the river, adding extra weight when hiking.

UL HYbrid Bow Bags - they basically do it all

Ultralight Hybrid Bow Bags are designed with more durable, sail or backbacking material. They can often integrate directly onto your backpack for additional storage and streamline design. Sockdolager’s and SWD even become an UL Daybag for sidequests.
